Jan Michalak is an Associate Data Scientist and Research Coordinator at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he supports data science and research projects involving clinical data, machine learning, and data engineering. Previously, he worked as a Full Stack Engineer at VCOM, developing web applications and data systems used by medical students and supporting real-time syndromic surveillance initiatives.His research experience spans machine learning, eye-tracking, virtual and augmented reality, and cybersecurity. As a graduate researcher at Virginia Tech, he worked on projects involving gaze modeling, adaptive navigation in VR, and the security of biometric systems in immersive environments, including research through DARPA’s Intrinsic Cognitive Security program.Jan holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from Virginia Tech. His technical experience includes Python, SQL, PyTorch, TensorFlow, React, Next.js, and MySQL, with a focus on applying software engineering and machine learning to practical research and data-driven applications.
